Short Form: Hello Asthma, My Old Friend
A short article about my personal experience with asthma written in preparation for a healthcare panel discussion in my hometown of Fresno, CA called, "Why is the Central Valley Sick?".
The panel discussion was centered around the high number of people in the region with medical conditions such as asthma, as well as the growing uninsured population. Public health officials and leaders in the healthcare community discussed what could be done to improve the health of the Central Valley.
Long Form: The Key to the Garden
A profile piece about a family-owned lock and key shop, nestled in the heart of Garden Grove, CA.
I spent 3 months with the family at their shop conducting interviews, and observing as a fly-on-the-wall. I also extensively researched the origin and history of locks and keys for context for my piece. The final piece was submitted for my Literary Journalism workshop, and shorter version was published in Zocalo Public Square for their "Where I go" feature.
